Abstract

Various problems arise in the context of urban society. The existence of cities can bring paradoxes. On the one hand, the city is the cradle of modern world civilization, but on the other hand, it is a place of social and spiritual decline. This phenomenon fosters a harmful and destructive perception and understanding of urban life. This study explores biblical perspectives on cities and how Christian theology can the context of urban society. This research uses a qualitative method with literature analysis. The results of the study state that urban theology builds a commitment to fulfill the Christian vocation and actively engage and contribute to urban life. Realizing the city is a legitimate place and space to show and present God's hospitality. Urban theology is vital in building mental and spiritual people and urban civilization. The essential elements of urban life must be bound together to restore a sense of common good in the challenges of today's highly diverse, pluralistic, and globalized urban life. The church is called to be involved in the transformation of the city.
