Abstract

This article examines the crisis of character formation in the digital age from a theological-pedagogical perspective, focusing on the fundamental tension between Imago Dei and algorithmic culture that shapes identity through digital technology. The phenomena of gawai addiction, gaming disorder, and attention fragmentation are not merely behavioral problems but reflect a deeper ontological crisis concerning human nature and purpose. Through a qualitative-conceptual approach using theological-philosophical methods, this article analyzes how algorithmic culture systematically deconstructs Christian understanding of humanity as Imago Dei. The article proposes that Christian Religious Education (CRE) must be reconstructed as counter-cultural pedagogy grounded in Imago Dei theology. CRE should not merely transfer religious knowledge but form character through holistic spiritual formation, integrating spiritual disciplines, authentic community (koinonia), and embodied practices as alternatives to digital liturgies. Practical implications include reorienting CRE curriculum from cognitive-informational to formational-transformational, developing pedagogy emphasizing contemplation and presence, and forming formational ecosystems involving church, school, and family.
