Abstract

Ancient Near Eastern poetry has a different style from poetry known in Indonesia. One distinctive style of Semitic poetry is the style known as Parallelismus Membrorum. Among this type of parallelism, there is a very distinctive style of Parallelism, which in the mid-20th century was known as Janus parallelism. This paper reviews some of the Janus Parallelism in one of the Hebrew books, the book of the prophet Habakkuk, chapter 3. This paper uses a method of structure and semantics analysis of poetry. By knowing this type of Janus Parallelism, it is expected that translators of Hebrew poetry, in particular, and Semitic poetry, in general, should be careful because it turns out that in Semitic poetry, there is a literary style of this Semitic poem.
