Abstract

In Indonesia, harmony is typically conceptualized as a relationship among human religious communities, often excluding the ecological dimensions of co-dwelling. Similarly, scholars have predominantly interpreted Psalm 133 as a text promoting social concord, largely overlooking its ecological implications. This article develops the concept of ‘cosmic harmony’ as a spirituality oriented toward creation care, employing a constructive reading of Psalm 133. The methodology integrates lexical and canonical-intertextual exegesis, Habel’s ecological hermeneutics, and a critical correlation with the political ecology of water. Four principal findings are presented. First, the term shevet characterizes harmony as a mode of dwelling rather than merely a feeling, as corroborated by Deuteronomy 25:5. Second, the threefold occurrence of yarad, the botanical composition of the anointing oil, and dew as marginal moisture collectively indicate that blessing is manifested materially. Third, the phrase ‘for there’ rejects an abstract cosmic spirituality, suggesting that universality is achieved only through commitment to a specific watershed. Fourth, Genesis 13:6-8 establishes the limiting condition: when accumulation surpasses the land’s carrying capacity, co-dwelling is undermined. Consequently, cosmic kerukunan is articulated as a spirituality of self-limitation.
